Okay I get so sick & tired of people making fan stories of April as some damsel in distress that gets hurt for attention, or acts like a piece of furniture that just stands there while people stand around & fight. She is not a cheerleader, she is an active character learning from the most kick-ass Sensei!
She is not a Disney Princess from the 1950's.... she is more like Merida from Brave than Snow White or Sleeping Beauty (Seriously, I have never ever met a wimpy GINGER! They have a fiery temper like their hair!). So here I wanted to portray her more than just a character trope... or what others have portrayed her in fan-stories.
She is more than just an object of Donnie's affection.
She lost her father to the Kranng! She is not crying & moping in her room, cause no-one understands her....she is not some damn Bell from Twilight!
She is learning to fight back & learning fast (cause she know she has to & also...who doesn't want to learn to be a kick-ass ninja????).
She is being stalked & chased by a mafia gang, who have taken her freedom away... but she is feisty, she is not going to let a bunch of jerks take her down easy!
She is also funny with her quick wit & not one to dwell or go woe is me (like some tropes & fan-stories that I can't stand to read).
She is a fighter in spirit & if pushed comes to shove, she will shove back.
Here she is standing up & defending Donnie... she knows she will most likely get killed or worse, but she is not going to run away & cry, she is standing up for her family & kick ass doing so!.... like any New Yorker I know would do!
I also wanted to experiment in using a bit of Adventure Time stye with a manga influence....

Overall Vision Originality Technique Impacta very good portrayal of character, and a message that NEEDS spreading, not only about April, but also about women in general, they can be and more. The toughness doesn't substract from the feminity of the character. she is indeed ready to rumble and won't take her tragedies or losses sitting down, no sir, she will rise and fight to protect her new family and avenge her lost one.
and the art style, while not my favorite (Adventure time style, I mean)is a refreshing take on the turtles style... the shadow of Shredder looming is an amazing touch, the lighting works wonders for the piece.
