Don't give up just yet. This makes the show interesting. Like at Ross and Rachel from Friends. They were always on again and off again. They dated lot of different people. But in the end they end up together. Maybe April dates Casey for while but realizes along the way how much Donnie means too her.
I still have hope for Donnie and April too happen ^_^
There more to the show then the love triangle its also show about family and being ninja course ^^
Okay so, maybe my judgment isn’t all that great, but I’m gonna write the post anyway. So, this is my reasoning as to why my preferred ship in TMNT 2012 is Capril, and why I would prefer that Apritello not become canon.
So, let’s start out with the love triangle dynamic. We have Casey, April and Donne. They all interact differently and I want to take a look at why that is. First off, Donnie’s affections for April.
Donnie is, by all accounts, a kid. Not to say that April and Casey aren’t still kids too, but mentally, Donnie has had the least amount of time to socially develop outside his brothers, which makes him a little awkward. April is the first girl Donnie has ever laid eyes on. That in itself isn’t the problem. The problem is that he’s too socially immature to understand how to behave around women.
His attraction to April is cute at first, even charming, but as the series drags on, it becomes concerning, bordering on obsessive. This is probably because Donnie doesn’t have a lot of interaction with women of any species, let alone human.
Let me tell you, based on real life experiences, I have been Donnie. I have chased a girl around and hounded her and consistently tried to impress her and generally made myself look like a huge fool. You know what it did? It drove the girl I liked away. It made my friends think I was weird, creepy and obsessed. They told me so.
I have also been in April’s position with Donnie. I’ve had someone SO hooked on me that they wouldn’t leave me alone. They’d text me every ten seconds, tell me they adored me, get uncomfortably personal and emotional in even the most casual of situations, and even tried to buy me expensive gifts to win me over. You know what happened? I told them no, over and over, until I finally told them not to talk to me again until they could get over me. We’re no longer even friends.
Based on my personal experience, I see Apritello as a potentially emotionally abusive relationship were it to happen. It’s not that Donnie would intend to be abusive, but his behaviour would become suffocating and he would probably chase April away.
Now let’s take a look at Casey and April. Casey’s a little luckier than Donnie in the fact that, well, he and April are the same species. Aside from that, however, the way Casey conducts himself around April is a lot different that Donnie. This is probably because of the differences in their upbringing and life experiences, but it makes Casey more familiar, and he’s a lot more laid back than Donatello.
Casey is a lot looser around April. When they first meet, he playfully invades her space, but backs off when she turns away. He’s calm, and there’s no trace of the frantic need to be liked. He’s not chasing for her affections, and that allows their relationship to grow from acquaintanceship to friendship without any awkward stages.
Casey and Donnie are both protective of April but in different ways. Casey treats April like a sister in the way he strives to protect her, whereas Donnie acts like if April were to get hurt, his life would be over. Casey has a higher level of respect for April, and it seems like they have more common interests.
Altogether, I don’t think Apritello is an inherently bad ship, nor do I dislike it. I simply think that the way the characters are written, if it were to happen, it would become an abusive relationship. If Donnie were to grow up a little more, mentally and emotionally, perhaps it would be a bit more plausible and possibly healthier, but it seems like Casey and April will likely have formed a bond long before that happens."
